Milan Expo 2015

Milan is currently the host of the Universal Exposition or World Fair that opened last week on May 1 and will last until October 31. The event covers 490 acres of land and expects over 20,000,000 visitors. The theme for this World Fair is Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life. This theme combines technology and innovation along with cultures and traditions and how that relates to food and diet. The event hosts 145 countries with their own pavilion and a significant amount of international organizations.

Today, Andrea took all of us girls to the event to get a taste of what it was like. None of us knew what to expect, we only knew a little bit about it from what our Italian teacher had explained to us. We were all a little overwhelmed when we first arrived because we didn't know where to begin. There were so many different things to see, different foods to eat, and different cultures to experience. Since it was around lunchtime, we all split up and got some food. Christine, Christine, Megan and I went the American pavilion (really branched out). The American theme for food was "Food Truck Nation". Chris and I got pulled pork sandwiches and Christine and Megan got burgers.

After lunch, we wandered around and came across mini pancakes in Holland. Perfectionnnnn.

Kiki, you need one of these stoves. Haha

The rest of our time there we walked around and visited as many countries as possible.. with some snacks along the way.

Turkey for my little turkey, Aral.

Tree of Life to represent Italy

At the end of our day Megan and I got to enjoy a concert put on in the Qatar area.

Thanks, Andrea for taking us today. Since it will be going on for the remainder of our time here in Milan, we will definitely be paying another visit. Ciao for now!

  1. What better for a World History teacher to do with his students than review history through food of the world(FOTW)! Great activity for those end-of-the-year manic doldrums.
